“Department 6 is the Army.
Department 13 is MI5.
Department 19 is the reason you’re alive.”
Department 19. One of the most graphic and entertaining horror novels I have ever read. This is not your stereotypical vampire book. This isn’t even your not-so-stereotypical vampire book. This is a book for people who are looking for a book that is knee deep in blood and gore that provides horror for the bucket load. Written by Will Hill in April 2011, it follows the adventures of Jamie Carpenter, a boy who finds out his father, who seemed to be a government official, was actually working for a top secret organisation that destroys all types of mythological creatures. But mainly vampires.
This book is one of the most horrific and gory books I have ever read. The series is in my top 5 and this book is in my top 10. The writing is superb, every stab wound and death and wound described in explicit detail. The language and the dialogue used was superb. I loved every second of it, there was not one moment where something was not happening. Every action packed moment was written expertly. It was detailed but not so detailed that you feel that that is all there is.
I definitely would only recommend this for people over the age of 13-14. This is a very graphic book. There are many things in here that are definitely not for younger readers. I would not be surprised if people under the age of 12 or 13 would get nightmares from reading this. It is a very detailed book that is definitely something you would buy someone who is looking for a serious book to read. If you are looking for a happy book this is definitely not the book for you.
If you are looking for a similar book to read I do not really know what to tell you. There are no other books like this one and if you don’t want to read this one then I do not know if there is a book out there for you.

This book is great because it uses the vampire mythology and takes it to an entirely new level. They can be revived, they can fly, they are not immortal but they live for ages. What makes it even better is that the action scenes are so brilliantly described its as if they are slugging it out in my living room.
There aren’t many things that I think are wrong with this book. It was well written, great storyline and great action scenes. I could say that I didn’t like the way that Jamie was cast as this really childish person who had a temper tantrum every other minute. But even that made the story better because you could tell that through the story he really grew as a person.
